Mercedes-Benz is preparing a striking concept that blends the past and future. It’s called the Aesthetics Progressive Luxury and the covers will come off on August 24 as part of Monterey Car Week. The annual Californian car extravaganza this year runs from August 18-26.

In the new video released on Thursday, we see a Mercedes designer doing a rough sketch of the concept’s profile.

Mercedes provided a more tantalizing taste in July with the reveal of a life-size sculpture. The design blended elements of a modern F1 car with those of a modified Mercedes’ W125 Silver Arrow grand prix racer that 80 years ago clocked an average speed of 268.8 mph over a stretch of Autobahn.

We also know that the actual concept will run an electric powertrain, thus making it a halo of sorts for Mercedes’ new EQ sub-brand for electric cars. Mercedes is even referring to the concept as the “EQ Silver Arrow.”

The first EQ model will be the EQC small SUV due for a reveal on September 4 in Stockholm, Sweden. Several additional EQ models will follow in the years to come including an EQA compact hatch and an EQS full-size sedan. Mercedes will also race under the EQ banner in the Formula E Championship starting in the 2019/2020 season.

Hennessey straps the 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 to the dyno

It's fairly common knowledge that the horsepower figures automakers parade around don't reflect power at the wheels. Rather, it's how much hp the engine makes at the crankshaft. Therefore, we need a dynamometer to measure just how much power is getting to the ground. Thankfully, Hennessey Performance Engineering has one, and it strapped the 2019 Chevrolet...
